CEO & Publisher James R. Crosby

Founded by James R. Crosby, in Cleveland Ohio, in October 1994, who still remains as publisher and CEO. CityNews Newspaper Group is the only locally owned and controlled newspaper organization in the greater Cleveland Area.

CityNews Newspaper publishes 50,000 weekly copies throughout the greater Cleveland area. Additionally, we publish in two other markets another 15,000 copies in Akron and 15,000 copies in Columbus.








MESSAGE FROM THE PUBLISHER:


African-Americans are usually portrayed in the media as very poor or very wealthy. The reality is that most African-American families are of middle income and have a very distinct set of issues they would like to see addressed, they won’t hesitate to turn to ethnic-owned and controlled publications to get unbiased, accurate information relevant to what is current in their world.


COMPANY OVERVIEW AND BACKGROUND


CityNews Newspaper Group, Inc, is an Ohio corporation, which is wholly owned by James R. Crosby, an African-American. The company serves as the launch platform for a multi-media system that includes three primary delivery components: CityNews, a weekly newspaper; CityNews Events; and CityNews Productions.


Newspaper Overview


CityNewsUSA targets Ohio’s Greater Cleveland’s middle-income range and upscale African-American demographic. It accomplishes its mission by addressing the major issues facing this African-American population, but also by drawing white readers through its “self-help” and “how-to” sections, “Work and Money” and “Health and Family.”


CityNews Latino targets Ohio’s middle-income range Hispanic population. It accomplishes its mission by addressing the major issues facing this population.

CityNews Events are designed so that sponsors can connect their companies to the community in a unique and specific way, primarily by leveraging off theCrosbyfamily’s long reputation in the community, and the high brand image and recognition of CityNews. The Village Television

A joint venture project with The United Pastors in Mission and CityNews Newspaper Group. (The United Pastors inMission– is the group of the top 100 African American Churches in Greater Cleveland)


The company called “The Village Television Group” a non-profit 501-c-3 is the owner of the station. CityNews Newspaper Group is the exclusive Marketing and Sales Company for the station.


The Village Television is cablecast 24 hours per day on Time Warner Cable Channel 230 to approximately 310,000 households.


CityNews Development Company (affiliate)

Our development company is an Ohio 501-c-3 non-profit. The company is used to provide scholarships to area college bound students, and to train kids how to become entrepreneurs.


Crosby Furniture Co. (sister company)

Began in 1963 by Fred and Phendalyne Crosby (the parents of James) is one of the country’s few African-American owned retail furniture stores.


Pomerantz & Crosby, LPA (sister company)
