CLEVELAND PUBLIC LIBRARY’S OHIO LIBRARY FOR THE BLIND AND PHYSICALLY DISABLED HOSTS ANNUAL FAMILY FUN & LEARNING DAY

CLEVELAND, OH – A day full of family-friendly fun at Cleveland Public Library’s (CPL) Ohio Library for the Blind & Physically Disabled (OLBPD) is planned for Wednesday, July 16th from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at 17121 Lake Shore Boulevard. Patrons of OLBPD and their loved ones are welcome to join in this annual, free event.

“This annual event for OLBPD is one that showcases the library as a place for everyone, no matter what their physical limitations may be,” said Felton Thomas, Director of CPL. “Through a variety of programming and family-friendly activities, this is a day dedicated to the patrons we proudly serve at OLBPD.”

Featured speakers include Terry Pluto, sports and faith columnist for The Plain Dealer, and the author of twenty-three books. He has twice been honored by the Associated Press Sports Editors as the nation’s top sports columnist for medium-sized newspapers and is a nine-time winner of the Ohio Sports Writer of the Year.

Also joining the day as a featured speaker is Vickie Collins, National Library Service (NLS) Network Services Section Head. Collins oversees NLS network consultants who are assigned special liaison responsibilities to individual network libraries to facilitate communication between NLS and network libraries, and collects information on specific problems and conveys these issues to NLS.

Highlights of the day include:

Tours of OLBPD’s Sensory Garden with flowers, herbs, and plants specially selected for their bloom, fragrance, taste, and texture.

Exhibitors including representatives from the Cleveland Sight Center’s “Eye-dea Shop,” Magnifiers and More, Veterans Administration, Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Walmart Low Vision Center, and more.

Beverly Cain, the State Librarian of Ohio, will share updates.

Tracy Grimm, the Head of the Talking Book Program at the State Library, will share information and answer questions about digital talking book players and equipment.
