Ohio NAACP Declares Energy as a Civil Rights Issue
6/5/2014, 9:13 p.m.
The NAACP Ohio State Conference of Units will release a new report that assesses energy policy in the State of Ohio from a civil rights lens. Titled “Just Energy Policies: Reducing Pollution and Creating Jobs - Ohio Report”, the report provides analysis of Ohio’s energy sector policies based on environmental, human health and economic impacts and lays a path for preserving the wellbeing of community while creating economic enterprise opportunities. “At a time when gains in Ohio’s clean energy transition are being threatened by the shortsighted Senate Bill 310, the NAACP is compelled to insert a justice and equity based analysis into the deliberations, in order to halt the advancement of this dangerous bill,” states NAACP Ohio President Sybil Edwards McNabb.
